The surrounding society and the main economic activity of the region of residence

The population of the Imeni Poliny Osipenko district of the Khabarovsk Territory, according to Khabarovsk Statistics Service, was 4.256 people as of January 1, 2020. As of October 1, 2020, the number of unemployed citizens registered with the state employment service was 169 people.

The main economic activities in the district are gold mining and logging; the district ranks 1st in the Territory in terms of gold mining, and 2nd in silver mining. There are also large forest tenants, engaged in timber harvesting. Polymetal UK is engaged in ore gold production at the Albazino deposit.

More than 10 legal entities and 32 individual entrepreneurs are engaged in trade. Their enterprises employ more than 150 people. In general, the food and non-food goods supply are stable and the product lines are diverse.

The analysis of the development of retail trade in the district shows that, despite the ample available retail space as a whole, there is a shortage of it in the remote villages of the district. There are five bakeries operating in the district that produce bread and bakery products.

Currently, there are no active enterprises engaged in agricultural production in the district. The agriculture is represented by 2.030 personal subsidiary plots. The main cultivated crop is potatoes.

In the district, there are 3 secondary schools, 1 elementary school, 1 children's art school, 1 extracurricular activity center, 6 kindergartens, 8 cultural centers, 1 library, and a museum complex. Healthcare services are provided by 3 local hospitals and 3 medical and obstetric centers of the Komsomolskaya Central Hospital. Due to their long service life, energy facilities in the district have significant wear and tear.

Access to high-speed communication is provided in five villages: Briakan, Vesyolaya Gorka, Glavny Stan, Vladimirovka, and Imeni Poliny Osipenko. All the settlements in the region are provided with land and cellular communications from the main operators of the Territory.

A big problem in the area inhabited by the Negidal is forest fires, which pose a serious danger to the areas of traditional occupations. Massive deforestation wreaked by timber companies also causes concern. All that is inevitably leading to a disruption of the natural balance and negatively affects the traditional economic and everyday life of the Negidal people.
